What is wash yield, and what counts as a good one?

Wash yield is the share of dry flower weight that comes back as ice-water (bubble) hash after a wash. WASHHOUSE publishes a figure for every cut, measured on our own runs during the pheno hunt. Across the 14 cuts in this catalog the published range is 3.2% to 5.9%. As a rule of thumb, roughly 4% and up is a strong washer and 5%+ is exceptional — most commercial flower is nowhere near that, because it was bred to be smoked, not washed. The highest published yields here are Colombian Gold Washer (5.9%), Medellín Melt (5.6%), Triple M OG (5.2%). What does micron mean, and which bag should I pull from?

A micron (μ) rating is the mesh size of a filter bag, which sorts trichome heads by diameter. Mature heads mostly land between about 45μ and 120μ; the 73–90μ window usually holds the cleanest, meltiest fraction, while bags above about 120μ catch larger heads along with more plant material, and bags below 45μ catch immature heads and contaminants. What is full melt, and what does a 6-star melt rating mean?

Melt describes how completely hash liquefies and bubbles under heat instead of leaving charred residue.
